I’m Matt Candler. Thanks for being here.

I spent 25 years helping people launch better schools and learning tools at places like KIPP, New York City Charter Center, and 4.0. 18 years ago, I started moonlighting as an electric motorcycle designer; my bikes have been on TV and in books on the future of transportation.

That led to my first angel investment in B2U, operator of the largest 2nd-life EV battery power plant in the US.

Since then, I’ve steered our small family office investing towards energy storage and other electrification opportunities. As an educator first, I remain obsessed with the human behavior change part of the energy transition.

As a resident of New Orleans and native of Atlanta, I’m super curious about the energy transition in the South — from the SE Battery Belt, to natural-gas-heavy utilities courting data centers, to Louisiana’s leadership in hydrogen, to resiliency and adaptation on the gulf coast.

This summer I got a little more organized and focused the investing I’m doing here - as The Batteries Included Fund.

Energy-curious family office LPs

Our small family office has the capacity to join in follow-on rounds. I’m interested in talking to family offices like ours:

• based in the Southeast Battery Belt,
• navigating the hand-off of wealth to a new generation, and
• up for co-creating wealth in the electrification of most of our traditionally fossil-fueled economy.
